Tuesday evening saw another disappointing defeat played on a cool blustery evening. Referee Paul Vosper cautioned eight players and sent off four Slough players - Maxwell, Scott, Hazel and, for the first time ever, Bunting.
Slough came under pressure early on and for the first ten minutes or so found it difficult to break forward. For the Kent side both Abbott and Dennis missed relatively straight-forward opportunities to take the lead and Trevor Bunting did well to deny a series of half-chances.
However we weathered the storm and gradually got on top to put pressure on the home defence. Andy Sayer had a couple of good efforts and was causing the Welling defenders problems and we took the lead moments before half-time. A Briley free-kick was floated in the penalty area where McKinnon had his first-time effort blocked for a corner. Briley took the corner, Foran's header was blocked, but Sayer followed up to grab his sixth goal of the season to put us ahead.
After the break we pushed forward again. Briley and Pluckrose combined well to release Hazel on the edge of the area, but his shot was struck straight at the 'keeper with the Welling defence beaten.
After 51 minutes Trevor Bunting was cautioned when he caught the ball at the edge of his 18-yard box. The resulting free-kick was driven low and hard around the Slough defensive wall by Robbins into the far right corner for the Welling equaliser.
Welling scored the decider ten minutes later. Robbins had his effort well saved, but Welling's Dennis followed to despatch the free ball into the back of the net.
Thereafter we battled to pull level but the game was interrupted by a series of cautions and dismissals and despite efforts from both McKinnon and Pluckrose, Slough could not draw level.
