In torrential rain, this match was played in a good and competitive spirit, with the Rebels seeking an early lead to decrease the 2-0 deficit from two weeks previous.
But it was not to be! After only three minutes a corner from Yeovil's Phil Ferns caught our defence off guard and the lofted cross fell to the waiting Mickey Spencer who headed home at the far post, to make our task all the more difficult.
Yeovil almost increased their lead after sixteen minutes Paul McKinnon's well hit back pass required an excellent save from Trevor Bunting, who was then fortunate enough not to be penalised by the referee under the new laws.
Gradually as the half wore on we took control. Both George Friel and Darren Anderson went close, but the equaliser was soon to follow. After a series of Slough corners, Friel lofted his cross to the unmarked Ian Hazel who headed home from close range.
Thereafter, a Les Briley free-kick flew just wide of the upright as the Rebels fought to take the lead and our efforts were rewarded after 32 minutes. Another Friel corner had Yeovil's 'keeper fumbling and the ball fell to the grateful Ian Hazel who turned and blasted home from close range to make it 2-1.
As half-time approached Yeovil pushed forward and both Stuart Hemsley and Mark Quamina reacted well to clear opportunities for the visitors.
After the break Neal Stanley could have levelled the scores on aggregate. Set up by a fine Friel cross, his shot was off target despite being well placed in the visitor's 18-yard box. Moments later Yeovil's Mickey Spencer hit the woodwork with Bunting beaten, but the ball rebounded to safety.
Yeovil then brought on Hung Dang as substitute. The Vietnamese play caused our defence a few problems and Bunting had to be at his best to deny a fine Wallace header after fine work by Dang.
Yeovil equalised mid way through the second-half to effectively kill the tie. Dang was again the provider. He broke the Rebels defence before driving low past the advancing Bunting to make It 2-2.
Towards the end both Friel and McKinnon had opportunities to add a third but despite a valiant performance in poor conditions, we went out of the Drinkwise Cup 4-2 on aggregate.
