On a dry windy night Slough kicked off up the hill and the opening exchanges were evenly balanced, with both sides foraging. Both defences appeared solid, with the Bath attacks contained to the edge of the penalty area.
Chances were few, although one fell to Darren Anderson who, seeing home 'keeper Mogg off his line, lofted the ball goal-bound, but Mogg was able to head the ball clear from the edge of his 18-yard box. It was a common sight to see Mogg regularly out of his 18-yard box, playing an almost 'sweeper-like' role, to clear or receive back passes, although this was to be his undoing later.
The second 45 minutes started with the home side pushing forward in search of the opener. A series of corners were eventually cleared by the Rebels defence and our first chance of the half almost opened the scoring. A well-taken free-kick from outside the 18-yard box from Les Briley fell to Darren Anderson who headed into the goalmouth for Mark Foran, who required a reflex save from Mogg to deny him.
On the hour Bath City's Randall broke through the Slough defence. Racing towards goal, the power of his shot beat Trevor Bunting, but the ball struck the upright and was cleared.
The later stages of the match saw the Rebels looking increasingly in control and on 82 minutes Mogg was again out of his goal to clear. His headed clearance was picked up first by Alan Pluckrose, who raced from inside his own half to within 35 yards and then drove the ball past the beleaguered Mogg to score the decider.
