TREVOR Bunting, Saturday's hero, was cast in the role of Wednesday's villain at Victory road. The stand-in keeper — who had kept Slough's FA Trophy hopes alive during the first match at Wexham Park — was at fault with two of Redbridge's three goals in this first round replay.
A dreadful error of judgement presented Redbridge with the lead in the 41st minute. Bunting was rooted to his line as Andy Weddell stole in to glance Jo Simmonds' cross just inside the post.
Bunting's second blunder came in the 89th minute when it was fairly academic anyway. Weddell punished Bunting for some poor positioning by curling a shot passed him from the edge of the area
Jason Spiteri had effectively put the match beyond the Rebels six minutes earlier when he converted Lawrence Osborne's miscued cross for Redbridge's second goal.
Slough's only chance of a less disappointing evening was wasted in the 57th minute. Barry Rake was clear when he fired straight at Redbridge keeper Mervyn Cawston. Rebels boss Alan Davies said afterwards: "We were confident going into the match, but we just didn't perform anywhere near our best" But Davies refused to blame Bunting for the defeat, "Trevor didn't let us down in the last two matches and I won't criticise him now," he said.
