Slough have dominated matches this season and failed to get their just rewards....but the boot was on the other foot on Tuesday night.

Apart from an early first half spell, the Rebels faced an onslaught from an eager Leyton Wingate side determined to repeat their 3-1 victory at Wexham Park a month ago.

On a bone-hard and relatively small pitch, Slough produced their best moments in the opening quarter -of-an -hour and took the lead just three minutes into the game. Steve Thompson rifled in a cross with Stanley dragging the defence to the near post, the ball fell to Barry Rake who hit a first time shot past 'keeper Peter Mills to break his duck in Slough senior team colours.

But the Rebels would rather forget the rest of their trip to a ground that even boasts its name the wrong way round (Wingate Leyton ), despite producing a few excellent chances, particularly from Barry Rake.

"We played quite well in the first half and were pleased to come in 1-0 up", admitted Alan Davies. " We were really up against it in the second and were happy to come away with a point, although it could have been three", he said realistically.

"But the dressing rooms were an absolute disgrace with the wash basins and urinals full of stagnant water" he fumed. "I wonder how these teams get away with playing in this league" he added.

Disregarding the state of the pitch and facilities, Leyton Wingate gradually got their football together after the shock goal with Mills' long, deep drop kicks the backbone of their attack pressing the Slough back four.

And despite some sterling work from centre backs Jeff Bateman and Tony Knight, the Rebels had more than one narrow escape with John Bolle heading against the woodwork and further denied by the brilliance of 'keeper Gary Lester.

In the second half, Slough tried to create more chances without success with Wingate's defence controlling all the aerial ball, but Rake proved to be more than a handful at times.

The Rebels were fortunate again when Bolle hit the woodwork but eventually Wingate got an ironic equaliser when Bolle rose to head wide of Lester and into the net off the post in the 57th minute.

In the circumstances, Slough did well to stem the flood, but disappointingly Rake limped off 15 minutes from time to be replaced by Paul Waites who had little time to settle into the game.

Three minutes from time, Slough almost stole the match when Stanley stunned the home defence with some deft footwork only to shoot painfully wide with just the 'keeper to beat.
