Slough Town's attacking style of play has been paying real dividends recently, and Saturday's performance at Wexham Park proved no different with the Rebels hitting five goals, sending Croydon home a totally destroyed team in this Servowarm Isthmian League, Premier Division clash.
The strong running and flair for the unusual from the talented duo of Rowan Dodds and Henry Pacquette picking up a hat-trick of goals between them, destroyed the Croydon defence and set table-topping Slough up for their tenth league win in a row.
If Croydon held any visions of picking up points from this fixture they were dispelled in the fourth minute.
A good run from Dodds to the bye-line produced a free-kick for obstruction. Micky Doherty chipped the ball delicately onto the head of Pacquette, who had timed his run perfectly, to head home at the near post from close range giving the 'keeper no chance.
The Rebels increased their lead in the 18th minute when Doherty headed a poor clearance over the top of the Croydon defence for Dodds to run onto and chip the advancing Steve Dungey for his fourth goal of the season.
Croydon's excursions into the Slough half were few and never really seemed threatening giving 'keeper Frank Parsons little else to do than jog around his goalmouth in an effort to keep warm.
It took the Rebels only three minutes of the second half to penetrate the Croydon defence again, when a long ball bounced over a defender, falling perfectly for Dylan Evans to volley powerfully past Dungey putting Slough comfortably ahead.
Croydon pulled back a goal three minutes later, thanks to a dreadful mistake from Parsons. Jon Warden hit a hopeful high ball into the Rebels penalty area and Parsons charged out to claim it but misjudged it and could only watch in horror as the ball bounced over his head and into the net.
Any possibility of a comeback was destroyed in the 55th minute when a Croydon defender headed past his own 'keeper from a Doherty corner.
Slough can thank an opposition mistake for their fifth goal as well. A mix up between the Croydon 'keeper and his central defender saw the ball rolling loose and Dodds following up well had all the time in the world to slot the ball into the open net in the 71st minute.
Dylan Evans was substituted after 77 minutes and his replacement Ian Parsons, making his debut, was unlucky not to score two minutes from time when an incredible shot from 30 yards was pushed over the bar by an equally incredible save.
As the Rebels won by four clear goals they receive a win bonus of £100. This is their second win bonus of the season with the previous bonus coming from a 5-1 win against Hitchin last month.
