If Slough Town are to keep their Servowarm Isthmian League, Premier Division championship hopes alive then they will certainly have to improve on this performance at Wexham Park on Tuesday evening.

Although the point they gained moved them into third spot with games in hand over Sutton United and Wycombe Wanderers, the Rebels can count themselves somewhat fortunate that they did not surrender their unbeaten home record.

It is now November 9 since Slough last won a league match, but having started brightly those who braved the cold conditions must have expected them to get back on the victory trail, at the expense of Hitchin.

However, despite dominating the first half, time and time again Slough wasted good openings with poor final passes and their only reward was a Rowan Dodds goal after 41 minutes when he scrambled home Dave Russell's well struck cross.

A lively Hitchin side then shocked the Rebels when Micky Nunn cracked home a fine equaliser from all of 20 yards with 60 minutes gone.

Slough then came under considerable pressure and first Dave Yerby cleared off the line while Peter Harvey missed a great chance when clean through.

Only a spectacular overhead clearance by Eddie Hutchinson then prevented a certain goal from Nunn after 78 minutes, while in a late rally by the Rebels to salvage victory substitute Gary Attrell saw an effort flash just past the post, and twice superb saves from Tony Luff foiled Dylan Evans in the dying minutes.
