Walthamstow Avenue duly took revenge on their moonscape of a pitch at Green Pond Road on Saturday, for their defeat by the same scoreline at Slough the previous week in the Berger Isthmian League, Premier Division.
Looking at the pitch before the match it soon became obvious that Slough would face a tough task, and so it proved for despite taking first blood Terry Reardon's flu hit side struggled to find inspiration on a hot strength sapping afternoon.
Slough took the lead after 16 minutes when Jimmy Walsh's free kick had the Walthamstow defence in a tangle, and Dylan Evans picked up the loose ball and fired home past goalkeeper Alan Jarrett.
After John Harrison had missed a good chance at the other end, a Barry Friend free kick was flicked on by Keith White and Eggie James saw his close range shot go just past the post after 35 minutes.
Direct from the goal kick Slough themselves conceded a free kick just outside the penalty area. Kevin Dare cleverly chipped the ball over the Slough wall and Alan Hunter nipped into beat Parsons from close range and equalise.
After the interval Walthamstow quickly stamped their authority on the game as the Rebels' midfield continually gave away possession.
Hunter skimmed the bar with a tremendous shot and then Joe Moloney conceded a penalty when he floored Graham Cole in the area. Russell Hall beat Parsons' despairing dive to put Walthamstow ahead from the spot kick.
Within a minute a rare error by Walsh set up a third goal for Walthamstow. Trying to play a dangerous ball into safety he succeeded only in giving it to Harrison who screwed it back from an impossible angle behind the advancing Parsons.
The Rebels almost reduced the deficit when Friend's corner was headed against the underside of the crossbar by Evans with Jarrett well beaten, but somehow the ball bounced out and was cleared to safety.
Directly from the clearance Cole hit a shot that rebounded back and when Parsons, trying to reach the ball, fell heavily, Hunter's shot at the empty net was punched away by Francis Araguez to give Walthamstow their second penalty.
Hall stepped up and drove the ball home off the underside of the bar to wrap up the match for Avenue, and provide them with sweet revenge tor their 4-1 defeat at Wexham Park the previous Saturday.
In the dying stages of the game Slough produced some good football and only an acrobatic save from Jarrett foiled Araguez, after a brilliant solo run by the young Rebels' full back.
