THIS VITAL win for Slough on Saturday enabled them to climb four places in the league table and for the first time this season, shake themselves clear of the last two.

Now entering the final run up of their programme the Rebels can tackle the task with confidence. Laurie Churchill, the caretaker manager, must be overjoyed at the success which has come since he took over the reins.

The programme ahead is not an easy one as Town have nine away league games and five at home, but it is significant that the last eight places in the table are covered by only ten points, so that all the clubs in that region from Leatherhead, down to Croydon, will be engaged in this grandstand finish.

With Paul Lee transferred to Oxford City, a chance was given to the Slough Reserve team’s prolific scorer, Trevor Rolfe, and Dave Yerby was substitute.

An enthusiastic and quick moving Boreham Wood side troubled Slough at the start and Teale made one brilliant save from Batten.

Slough did their share of attacking and took the lead after 33 minutes when Charlie Marks, having his best game for the club, made the most of Boreham's hesitation while in vain they claimed offside, to chip the ball neatly over Waller's head for a well deserved goal.

Slough were well satisfied with their half time advantage of a single goal, and even more delighted in the first minute after the re-start, when Dave Russell crossed to Trevor Rolfe who pushed the ball to Marks for that player to again chip it over the advancing keeper's head into the net.

For the last fifteen minutes Rolfe was replaced by Yerby. Teale saved well from Batten but as he lay on the ground he lost the ball and Wilshaw put it into the net. Boreham stormed forward for the equaliser but the tall figure of Young, and the safe hands of Teale, saved the day for the Rebels.
