Alan Gane won't forget Saturday's Isthmian League match in a hurry. He put Slough on the way to victory with a superb fifth minute drive but was carried off with a torn hamstring early in the second half.
The injury ends the 26-year old Gane’s remarkably long run in the Slough side. The former Wycombe, Hereford and Chelmsford player said: "I'm well sick. I was the only ever present in the Slough team this season - and I did not miss a league or cup game last season. But now the run is over. This injury will keep me out for about 14 days."
Gane, converted from midfield to left-back, repeated the 'spectacular goal scored against Leytonstone last season seizing on a poor clearance in the fifth minute to send in a low, swerving drive from 25 yards which diving keeper Jacobs could only touch on its way into the net.
Slough continued to attack, with Paul Lee repeatedly going past right-back Les Tilley. A goal seemed certain when Lee drove the ball across to Somers but the bearded striker knocked it over the bar from point blank range.
The home side eventually made it 2-0 in the 30th minute when a snap shot by Tim Turl went through a group of players and deceived the unsighted Jacobs.
Russell came on as substitute in a reshuffled Slough side after Gane's injury and as Gane was being carried to the dressing room Leytonstone reduced the arrears. Tilley's long ball towards the penalty area was flicked on by Morgan for Steve King to slip past keeper Porter.
