Slough Town, Athenian League champions, are back at the top of the Premier Division table, thanks to their fine 5-0 win over Southall on Saturday. For the first time this season the Slough attack really got into top gear and the Southall defence had no answer. Chatterton, Giggle (2). Tottman and Reid were the Slough scorers.

Southall came to the Stadium with an impressive record but were never in the hunt although Slough were without Day, their captain, for whom Hunn deputised.

A deceptive wind made play difficult and with the wind behind them in the first half Southall had more of the play but both up front and in midfield with Chatterton in fine form Slough gradually got the better of the encounters. Despite the five-goal win margin this was not a game full of incident, in fact one spectator was heard to say that apart from the goals nothing really happened in the game and there was a fair amount of truth in that statement. What Slough did was to take advantage of the chances they created and Southall could well feel that there was not really a five-goal difference in the two sides.

In the 16th minute Tottman was put clear by a clever Chatterton pass, but after drawing the keeper from his line the Slough player chipped the ball just over the bar, In the 23rd Southall got in their only shot of the first half when Salked hit the ball across the goalmouth but it was wide.

In the 32nd came the first goal, a goalmouth scramble with Giggle racing in and Salked turned the ball wide of his keeper for Giggle to help it on its way.

Ten minutes and two Slough corners later the score was 2-0, a Reardon free kick on the right was helped on by O'Sullivan and Chatterton flicked home his 14th goal of the season.

After the interval, with the wind behind them, Slough took charge, and in the 59th went three up, with the best goal of the match, a fine passing move from Reardon to Hunn to Giggle, back to Hunn and returned to Giggle to slot home.

Slough continued to pressurise the Southall defence and in the 78th they went further ahead, a D'Arcy free kick from the right was headed down by Chatterton to Tottman's feet and Tottman hammered the ball home along the ground.

The visitors did not at any stage of this game lack effort but they just could not match Slough and with five minutes left to play Slough completed their most decisive win of the season when a Chatterton header hit the upright and Reid volleyed home the rebound.
