Slough once again put up a poor display at Tilbury where they seldom show to advantage. It was not until five minutes from the end that Slough saved a point and then it was a goal scored from the penalty spot which saved their bacon. Roger Day took the kick and stored a goal which caused the home supporters to say they were robbed.
Slough were forced to make late changes, Reardon, suffering from 'flu, was missing, and Turl failed to arrive on the ground. So in the reshuffle Jamieson came in at right back and Nathan I wore No. 11 shirt. This sort of last minute change cannot help any side and it certainly did nothing for the Town.
Slough opened with a series of attacks but several good chances were missed and Tilbury got into the game exerting a lot of pressure.
Dunwell missed an easy chance in the 12th minute and with more Slough players falling back to defend the Dockers really began to dictate the play. In the 27th Flood fired in what looked like a certain goal but showing amazing reflexes Wolstenholme managed to finger the ball away for a corner. With the Slough keeper in fine form Tilbury just could not get the goal their work deserved and in the 40th Hopkins headed wide of the Slough defenders, but again it was Wolstenholme's fingers that saved the day.
The second half was all Tilbury but the elusive goal just would not come until the minute when Welsh brought the ball down with his hand in the middle of the Tilbury, penalty area and with the Slough players all appealing for a penalty he cleared the ball upfield where after a terrific goalmouth scramble Flood slotted home the first goal to put Tilbury in front.
Slough at last began to show some life but it was not until the 85th that they drew level when Day was floored in the Tilbury area and converted the resulting penalty.
