Slough Town jumped back to the top of the Athenian League on Monday evening when they gained a 4-2 victory over Lewes before 600 spectators at the Stadium. The game was watched by scouts of Everton Arsenal, Stoke and Oxford United, but none of them disclosed in whom they were particularly interested.
Slough dropped Hill and O'Sullivan from the team which drew with Harwich and Parkeston and introduced Turl and Nathan. The feature of the game was the success of Reardon and Day who set up a splendid understanding and controlled the game.
Slough played very much better than on Saturday and were the masters before the end although at one period they were trailing 2-1.
After 24 minutes Roger Day put Slough ahead when he slammed in a fine shot from 35 yards out which completely beat the goalkeeper.
Early in the second half Lewes equalised when Smith, their player manager, scored from a free kick. To the surprise of the Town the visitors went ahead in the 65th minute when Elliott snatched a goal.
Eighteen minutes from time Slough were still a goal down, then Chatterton equalised and in a storming finish a brilliant piece of combination between Reardon and Day ended in Chatterton heading Slough into the lead.
With two minutes to go Tottman scored Slough's fourth goal when his shot sailed into the top of the net while the keeper kept his eye on Chatterton waiting to collect the ball.
