Although Slough won this match at Slough on Saturday by 11 goals to 2, the game was hardly so one-sided with the score would indicate, Marlow struggling bravely onto the end.
They found Slough at the top of their form, Smith being simply irresistible at centre forward. He opened Slough's account 20 minutes from the start, obtained a second from a corner almost directly after, and a third from a fine pass by Gooderson.
A centre by right was the means of Smith registering yet a fourth, and he also headed into the net twice from corners, the Slough centre the scoring six goals inside 25 minutes.
Marlow failed to reply, being handicapped during the last 10 minutes by Gale injuring his knee and having to retire, and crossed over with the score 6 to none against them. In this half Slough obtained 10 corners to 1.
In the second half Marlow had Gale back again, but Ivall quickly added a seventh goal, and Poole and eighth. Then a rousing cheer announced that Marlow had scored through Gale with a low, swift shot.
Wright, Denton and Gooderson replied for Slough, and towards the close Crocker, in kicking off, sent on to 1 of his backs, and Gale, rushing up, but on a second point for Marlow, who retired vanquished by 11 to 2, probably the biggest score ever registered against the once famous club. Last year Slough scored 9 to none against them.
