Ben Harris’s header cancelled out Levi Amantchi’s opener as the points were shared at the Dunmow Group Stadium, writes David Tancred.
Slough started the game off well, with the first big chance of the game on 5 minutes falling to Ben Harris with his header sailing over the bar after a brilliant ball in from Matt Lench.
On 8, the Rebels had another good chance through Dan Roberts after the striker found himself one-on-one with keeper Jack Sims, but the shot flew just wide of the post. This was Dan Roberts’ first game back since returning to the Rebels on loan from Dartford.
Braintree made Slough rue their missed early chances as on 9 minutes the home side took the lead through Levi Amantchi, who struck the ball from the edge of the area into the bottom left corner.
After the goal, the Rebels never let their heads drop, with the away fans in full voice supporting the team on for an equaliser.
On 17, Slough had yet another chance with Lee Togwell being unmarked at the back post and striking the ball across goal, just for a Braintree defender to clear the ball off the line and out for a corner.
Braintree had a big chance to double their lead just before the break as on 36 Willie Clemons found himself one-on-one with Rhys Forster, with the Rebels keeper coming out on top.
On 62 minutes Slough got their deserved equaliser as Matt Lench whipped in a brilliant ball from a free kick to Ben Harris with the striker heading the ball into the roof of the net from 6 yards giving Sims no chance. Harris was never going to miss this one with Slough’s hard work finally paying off.
After the equaliser, the Rebels did not stop their hard work and pushed for a winner.
The best chance for Slough after the goal was on 79 minutes after Lench and Harris yet again linked up beautifully with Harris getting in behind the defence, however his low shot which was destined for the bottom corner was tipped behind by Sims in the Braintree goal and was the last big chance for either side.
Slough’s two-match winning run is over, with an away trip to Chippenham Town coming up next this Tuesday evening.
