Any hope Slough had of not finishing bottom of the league were comprehensively extinguished as Walton routed the Rebels.
Buoyed by a strong performance against Tonbridge three days earlier, Slough came into the game with a small degree of confidence as whilst results had not gone their way, performances had improved and they would have been hopeful of a positive result.
However, despite being just one place above Slough, Walton showed the difference in ability and desire and dispatched the Rebels with relative ease in the end.
Three late goals put a gloss on the result for the visitors in a result which will have seriously damaged morale in the Slough squad.
Walton started the better of the two sides on a bumpy Stag Meadow surface with Rob George and Bobby Hooper both going close. The scoring was opened in the 14th minute was Edward Asafu-Ajaye struck home with a volley on the turn as Slough failed to clear a corner.
This did spur Slough into action and Craig Price saw his shot blocked, George Moleski shot over and Darron Wilkinson volleyed wide as the Rebels responded to going a goal behind.
Carl Dennison had to be at his best to keep out a superb strike from range from Gibrilla Kargbo and then at the other end Terry Davies' free kick brought a fine save from Robert Webb. From the resulting corner an overhead kick from Steve Daly was cleared off the line by Gavin Cartwright.
The visitors extended their lead with 41 minutes on the clock. Wayne Robinson's run at the near post saw him time his run perfectly to meet a low cross from the right and he was able to steer the ball home.
Danny Jeffries replaced Darron Wilkinson, who had been carrying a knock, at half time as the Rebels looked to gain impetus in the game but it was still the visitors who were creating the chances. Kargbo again found the target from distance but again found Dennison denying him. George had two chances in quick succession just before the hour. Volleying his first effort over, he was denied by Dennison with his second. Whilst the ball fell kindly to Freedom Pigott, Michael Donovan got a vital goal line block in and Dennison was able to recover the ball.
It took Slough twenty six minutes to register their first chance of note and Matt Miller should have got the Rebels back into the game. A long ball from a free kick from Dennison was flicked on by Davies. Miller broke clean through but saw his first effort saved by Webb and the follow up was unfortunately straight at the Walton keeper and the chance had gone. Davies followed up with another good chance a minute later, stealing the ball of a Walton defender but his lob across goal from a narrow angle went wide of the far post.
Walton went further ahead in the 77th minute when a cross from the right was unfortunately deflected into his own net by Donovan and five minutes later, Pigott got onto the scoresheet with an easy headed finish at the back post.
Jon Mills came on to replace Steve Daly in Slough's second change but it did not change the momentum of the game which was firmly with the visitors and they rounded off a fine performance with a fifth three minutes into injury time. Sub Daniel Lodge, who had come on for Wayne Robinson with eighty minutes played, was put through in the middle of the pitch. He opted for power and smashed the ball past Dennison in the final action of the match.
