FA Amateur Cup

This tie took place at Newbury on Saturday, under most favourable conditions, and before a large concourse of spectators.
The home team was precisely the same as represented them in the English Cup, with the exception of Freebody (capt.), who was hurt on the previous Wednesday.
Starting uphill, Newbury had the best of the opening play, and Pope headed a goal from a corner within five minutes.
This was the extent of scoring up to half-time, but shortly after the resumption the visitors, who were inclined to roughness, equalised by Summersby.
This roused the home side, who scored three goals within ten minutes, George putting on a beauty, followed by Martin and W. Ferris, these successes causing great enthusiasm among the spectators.
Slough made desperate efforts to get on terms, but tired perceptibly towards the close, and although Ivall defended well he was beaten again before time by W. Ferris and Newbury won in easy fashion by five goals to one.
Ferris and Pope were good in defence for Newbury the former especially so, while of the forwards, W. Ferris, Martin, and Dolton were the pick. Slough did not make a big show, the backs being the most prominent.
