In the greater scheme of things. the Berks and Bucks Cup is low down in the Rebels' list of priorities this season, but it was still painful to see how they bowed out at York Road on Tuesday.

On the night, they could have no complaints as Maidenhead carved out enough chances in the first period to have been out of sight at half time, had it not been for the profligacy of Adrian Allen and Lawrence Yaku.

Defending at the bottom of the slope, the Rebels were unable to mount much of a threat in the first half while at the other end Adrian Blake was kept busy.

But the shooting of the pacy Maidenhead strikers was nothing short of awful although Allen clipped the bar with a rising drive after robbing Nick Gyoury in the 18th minute.

Further chances came and went before Blake produced an excellent save on the ground where he spent two months on loan earlier this season to deny Paul Kelly shortly before the break.

This came from a free kick on the right that Rebels were unable to clear and the balls broke to the Magpies midfielder ten yards out.

His miscued shot came through a crowd of players but Blake got down well to turn it round the post.

It was a different Rebels that began the second half and after first half sub Andy Deaner won the ball in the box, home keeper Richard Barnard was out quickly to block Sammy Winston's effort.

From the resultant corner. Maidenhead broke straight up to the other end and forced one of their own from which they opened the scoring after 48 minutes.

Allen, whose shooting had let his side down in the first half, managed to get it right with his head when he met Ryan Ashe's left wing corner at the far post and his header sneaked over despite the attentions of Byron Bubb on the post.

The Rebels replied instantly and they too had the hail in the net from a corner a minute later but the 'goal' was ruled out for a foul on Barnard.

After 64 minutes, Lee Channel replaced goalscorer Allen and he made an instant impact by scoring the second goal.

Rebels failed to deal with a corner, the ball was played back in by Ashe and a miscontrol by Channell fooled the defence and he was able to lash the ball high into the net.

Channell then made the game safe with his second and Magpies third when Magpies broke quickly and he had a one on one with Blake before finishing front 15 yards.

All Rebels had to play for after that was pride and they came close to a goal on 82 minutes.

Winston made light work of beating left back Brian Connor, crossed low across the six yard box where Boot slid in but Barnard managed to divert the hall onto the bar and then recovered to block the rebound for an excellent double save.

Slogh were finally rewarded in injury time when Winston's cross hit Craig Webster's hand and Boot sent Barnard the wrong way from the spot.
