Slough Town continued their impressive home form with an excellent victory against Barking and East Ham United.
The Rebels were slow out of the blocks and it was the away side who took the initiative early on. They took the lead after only four minutes when Andrew Oxby chipped past goalkeeper Adrian Blake from the edge of the penalty area. The away side continued to press the home defence and nearly went further ahead when a corner into the penalty area caused confusion in the Slough defence between Blake and Ryan Spencer with the latter almost heading into his own net.
That scare seemed to shock the home side into action and the Rebels were back on level terms when a low free-kick by debutant Craig Rocastle was cleverly dummied by Sammy Winston for Tony Boot who turned his marker and shot into the back of the net. Just eight minutes later the Rebels went ahead when Spencer won the ball in midfield. His defence splitting pass found Boot who rolled the ball under the advancing Lee Richards into the net.
The last chance of the half fell to Barking when a clever backheel by Nial Ritchie found Billy Read who shot over Blake's crossbar.
Early in the second half the Rebels had another chance to score again when Winston created a chance out of nothing after turning his marker and running through on goal, but his low shot was well saved by Richards. Boot almost had a chance to score his second hat-trick of the season when a pass from Byron Bubb was inches away from finding the Rebels striker.
Winston had another chance soon after when he was put through on goal, but his outside of the foot flick saw Richards deny Slough again. Slough eventually went further ahead when a corner into the penalty area by Spencer was met by the head of Dean Palmer. The Rebels defender certainly enjoyed his goal with his, shall we say interesting goal celebration!
The Rebels had further chances to go ahead and almost grabbed another with another excellent move after Bubb found Winston who superbly backheeled for Christian Metcalfe who saw his low shot saved. Barking almost pulled a goal back with ten minutes remaining when a free-kick on the edge of the area was sent inches past the post by the impressive Oxby.
Boot had one last chance to score his hat-trick when a ball from Spencer found forward who saw his low shot saved by Richards. The last chance of the match fell to Barking when a shot from the right from Brian Sutchley was well saved by Blake at his near post by punching the ball away from the danger area.
