Slough Town lost to Barking & Eash Ham United on Tuesday night at Mayesbrook Park.
With Christian Metcalfe suspended the Rebels were frorced to reshuffle with Ricky Browne moved to left-back and Paul Barrowcliff moved into midfield. This change forced Slough into giving Anthony Howard his long-awaited first start of the season at right-back. The Rebels had the first chance of the match when a cross from the left by Byron Bubb was headed wide by Steve Hale.
Soon after Ryan Spencer had another effort for the away side when his shot from the edge of the area went over the crossbar. Midway through the half Barking took the lead when they broke quickly following a Slough corner. A cross into the area from the left found Billy Read who scored past goalkeeper Dominique Jean-Zepherin.
Slough could have drawn level soon after when a cross into the area by Hale found Sammy Winston at the back post, but the striker volleyed the ball into the ground when he should have done better. Just before half-time the home side almost increased their lead when Jamie Dormer hit a low free-kick left footed that was well saved by Zepherin.
If the Rebels were going to get any points out of this match they would have to play a lot better in the second half, but yet again they failed to create many chances. With twenty minutes gone and no real Slough Town shot on target recored Slough threw on Alvin Bubb and Tony Boot in place of Veli Hakki and Steve Hale.
The substitutions made almost an immediate impact when Boot picked up the ball out wide after a Ryan Spencer corner was cleared. He crossed the ball into the box and defender Dean Palmer headed the ball into the net. With ten minutes remaining Barking grabbed the winning goal when Read picked up a pass from midfield. His first touch took him wide of goal, but he delightfully chipped Zepherin and the ball went into the corner of the net to secure all three-points for the home side.
