The Nightmare continues — Slough such confident title contender just a couple of months ago are now making a rapid surge in the opposite direction conceding precious ground to the teams in slightly better form above them.
It's hard not to feel considerable sympathy for poor Les Briley. Most people at the club are well aware that he was the main factor in Slough's flying start to the season.
But and it's a biggy, since his name has been "in lights" — so to speak, the Slough slump has been dramatic.
One win in eight — a cup tie at struggling Hayes — and a succession of league defeats have rocked the confidence and seemingly the spirit of the side.
On Tuesday night, Bath City trampled all over a hapless Slough. A Slough featuring one or two players who looked resigned to defeat before a ball had been kicked.
Only Paul Manning, Briley's most recent signing looked to have the measure of the opposition. Unfortunately for Manning, the rest of a reshuffled defence —Brian Lee was out injured — was totally ill at ease.
Bath and in particular Adie Mings tearing Town's rear-guard into shreds throughout.
The game was effectively over after a torrid twenty minute opening spell, Slough conceded two and more seemed inevitable.
Bunting and Dowson had combined to deny their hosts a sixth minute advantage but when, five minutes later, Cousins danced past Dowson again Bunting was powerless to prevent Martin Boyle's header from giving Bath the lead.
That lead was doubled on 17 minutes as Paul Chenowech planted a far post header beyond Bunting.
Cue for heads to drop. Banks was close to a third and after a lull, Mings twice robbed Briley in the second half but failed to beat Bunting.
For Slough Stanley had two chances, Morrys Scott one but Gary Smart had the final say heading Bath's third late on.
"I feel so sorry for the fans," said a dejected Briley. "I promise them I'm doing all I can to turn it round and I will turn it round event if it means a number of new faces. "Whatever it takes . . . right now I'd give anything for three points, I just hope the fans stay with us through this."
