Bromsgrove inflicted Les Briley's third defeat in four games in charge on Tuesday night to send Slough tumbling out of the Drinkwise Cup.
Town could consider themselves somewhat unfortunate in that Rovers' winner came just four minutes from time, and immediately after Slough had seen their own claims for a penalty turned down.
In fairness however the home side largely dominated the second half and just about deserved their place in the third round.
Slough's case was not helped by an ankle injury to the influential Ian Hazel who limped out of the fray before the interval.
Hazel, back in the side for Steve Scott, had been joined in midfield by new loan signing Paul Manning and Mark Fiore as Briley who sat this one out —reverted to a 4-4-2 formation for the first time this season. And in an entertaining first half, Briley was delighted by his side's showing.
Morrys Scott had an early strike ruled out for a foul on Bromsgrove keeper Scott Cooksey before Neal Stanley put Town ahead on five minutes.
Again Scott challenged Cooksey for Fiore's cross and as the ball dropped invitingly Stanley applied the finishing touch from six yards.
Richardson struck a Slough post with a fierce free-kick and Bunting saved well from Carter while Scott's volley from Fiore's cross was gathered by Cooksey.
Slough at this stage looked comfortable but on 42 minutes Ricky Carter fell as Bunting came to meet him and referee Mr Holbrook from Ludlow said penalty — albeit on the advice of his linesman. Webb levelled the tie.
Steve Scott replaced the injured Hazel but struggled as now, did Slough.
Bunting made two fine saves in the early part of the second half and Slough felt they might be about to steal the game when Stanley tumbled under Wardle's challenge. No penalty said Mr Holbrook and Rovers broke swiftly, exposing gaps in the Slough defence which Hanks took advantage of, lobbing Bunting for the decisive strike.
