Late substitute Gary Dodd rifled home an injury time winner as the Rebels restored some pride against second placed Bromley at Wexham Park on Saturday.
Dodd came on in the 76th minute for the injured Tony Knight after being dropped from the side and fired home his seventh goal of the season, two minutes into injury time, ending Bromley's title hopes.
After slipping up at Barking and earning just one point in nine from three games, Rebels fans were entitled to an afternoon's good football entertainment and got it.
The narrow score line gives some indication of the battle on the park, albeit a mixed bag of sweet football, wasted opportunities and unnecessary flag waving on the lines.
Rebels boss Alan Davies said "After the first 10 minutes it always looked as though it was going to be a battle. It was a nice time to get a goal and we had the better chances, but we rode our luck in the box. Gary was left out because with Wayne we haven't been getting anybody in behind the defence, but today we did just that. We were living dangerously in our box and had a couple of clear chances in theirs, but there wasn't enough calling - that's why we missed a goal when Ken and Wayne came in behind Neal Stanley and his shot went wide".
With Dodd and Paul Waites out of the team that started the game, Tony Dennis returned to attack the left flank after being left out at Barking and Steve Thompson dropped into midfield.
Thompson and Wanklyn covered every inch of the park as Slough came under pressure in the opening half hour, triggered by an early warning when Bunting got caught outside his box and had to scramble back to save from Bromley's Paul McMenemy.
But the young Slough 'keeper pulled off a marvellous string of saves and kept them in the game as well as giving his side moments of agony!
Bunting reacted brilliantly from a Loughlin header, after a flick on by McMenemy, to tip over the bar and then fumbled in the box when Ronnie Murrock shot wildly over the bar.
But confusion in the box rippled throughout the team as Thompson led the charge into the Bromley half and Tony Knight slipped a fine ball through the offside trap, but Neal Stanley paused and was smothered by the safe hands of 'keeper Nicky Sullivan in front of goal. A chance wasted.
Shortly after the break, the Rebels stepped up the pressure with a 30-yard Chalky White free kick screaming past the post and Tony Dennis denied by 'keeper Sullivan after a beautifully weighted ball from Thompson.
But the incessant shrill of the ref's whistle and gusts of wind thrown up by the linesman's flag, all too often, brought the game to a halt with Davies being warned on the bench for querying a dubious offside decision.
As the play swung from end to end, a breath of pure genius swept the pitch in the 50th minute when Steve Thompson powered through the Bromley defence but his venomous shot was well saved by Sullivan.
By now Slough had gained momentum and in their best spell should have wrapped up the match. In the 63rd minute Tony Dennis rode a tackle from left back John Roles and the cross was spun through Sullivan's hands to Neal Stanley who managed to shoot on the turn, but to no avail.
Ten minutes before the final whistle, Bromley's Paul Edwards received a booking for dissent, perhaps a little late after he and Shaw had constantly charged Jimmy Brown to the ground.
Two minutes into eight of injury time, Slough dealt the killer blow when Steve Thompson retrieved a Neal Stanley cross and pumped in a teasing ball from the right for Gary Dodd to blast into the roof of the net from 10 yards - an uncharacteristically decisive finish to this match.
