The Rebels won their first ever league fixture at Nyewood Lane on Monday night as Slough took a 2-0 victory back from Bognor.

On a rich carpet of grass, the two sides served up an evening of entertaining football with skilful passing movements that would grace any soccer stage.

Bognor can count themselves unlucky not to have taken at least a point from this encounter as the "Rocks" created more of the chances and were denied by the woodwork on one occasion.

Slough managed to test Bognor 'keeper Simon Steele with some speculative long range efforts as Rebel's Steve Thompson turned in an impressive display to match the controlled footwork of the Bognor side.

Bognor's forages down the left were giving Trevor How a torrid time at full-back though Slough took the lead amidst the pressure to undoubtedly turn the game.

After 42 minutes, Tony Dennis cut in from the right before releasing Rebels' deadly striker Jimmy Brown. Brown was denied as his effort was charged down on the line but Steve Thompson was on hand to follow up and bury the ball past Steele for 1-0.

Slough almost added another on the stroke of halftime when Steve Thompson slipped past two defenders before presenting Tony Dennis with the simplest of chances though Dennis blasted his shot wildly past the post.

Jeff Bateman and Tony Knight held firm at the back to keep the south-coasters at bay, though Slough had to be rescued by the post when a tremendous 20-yard effort by Gordon Murray came back off the woodwork.

Slough secured the points after 74 minutes with a goal that had its beginnings at the heart of the Rebels defence. Gary Dodd moved from deep within his own half as he sent a long ball to find Paul Waites. Steve Thompson made himself available and beat two defenders before giving Jimmy Brown the simple task of slotting into an empty net for his 34th goal of the season.

Paul Waites narrowly missed out on adding a third soon after but he was unable to turn his shot in from close range, though by now the match was won.

Slough have now laid a third jinx to rest with this win over previously unbeatable Bognor, after also defeating "bogey" sides Croydon and Harrow.
