Lady Luck made a rare but welcome appearance on Slough's side on Tuesday night.

For poor goalkeeping and a freak rebound made for a scoreline which made a mockery of a game between two evenly-matched sides.

"For a change the ball ran for us, admitted manager Alan Davies. "It hasn't especially in the last two games and overall, we've got to be pleased with the three points."

Although not having fully recovered from an ankle injury, Kenny Wilson, along with Jimmy Brown, made a welcome return to the side. Yet despite not having his own pair of boots, manager Davies had to name himself a sub as Waites and Wheatley were injured and Woodley suspended.

It was a full 40 minutes before either side managed a shot on-target, but just as we were thinking the game was going to be as forgettable as Saturday's, Slough went in front.

Devon Petty dispossessed Gurney before making good ground on the left and he caught 'keeper Pearson asleep with a well-directed, but hardly powerful shot into the far corner.

Bunting then saved well from Smale, before the Rebels increased their lead a minute before half-time. Again on the left flank, Woodcraft fed Brown, whose neat lay-on enabled Keith White to shoot home firmly from a tight-angle.

Slough allowed City time and space they shouldn't have in the second half, but Bunting wasn't as generous as those in front of him and made three or four good stops.

In fact, only four minutes remained when the Rebels troubled Pearson for the first time since scoring. He responded well to Petty's pivot and shot through.

Slough’s third goal owed more than a little to good fortune. White chased MacMahon's hopeful through ball and Pearson dashed out only to belt the ball against the onrushing skipper. White must have been as surprised as anyone to find the ball at his feet and with the net unguarded, duly slotted home.
