Dame Fortune smiled on the Rebels as they gained derby revenge on Tuesday night.
Rowan Dodds helped himself to a hat-trick, courtesy of an appalling goalkeeping gaffe and a similarly ludicrous penalty award, as under-par Slough reversed the September result between the local rivals.
Yet the never-say-die Royalists had the majority of the ball as Alan Davies' side again fell below their best on the big occasion. But all they had to show for their gallant efforts was a tragic own goal by home skipper Kevin Tilley.
With Mark Franks sensationally sent off too, the healthy 941 gate were treated to a real comedy of errors, but for the Royalists it was rather less than funny ha ha. The Rebels fortuitously went in front in the eighth minute. Hewitt inadvertently deflected Waites' shot into Dodds's path, but he stuck the chance away clinically.
The lively Dodds was the Rebels' brightest spark in a first half in which defenders Bateman and Knight had to be at their best to deny Royalists the openings their industry warranted.
Twice, Norman, Richards and impressive new boy Micky Wilson linked to endanger Slough, but their equaliser was 100 percent home help. Tilley was not under any pressure whatsoever as he turned the ball back to Graham Cox. But instead of rolling it gently back to the 'keeper, the back-pass skied over the astonished 'keeper to make it 1-1 in the 38th minute.
It was no less than Windsor deserved, but they fell behind again before the break. Kevin Mitchell flapped at Tilley's cross and his namesake, Stuart, cleared off the line to save a highly embarrassing situation.
Alas, there was no-one to save the 'keeper's blushes when he gaffed again less than 90 seconds later. Dodds forged to the by-line and his hard, low cross was fumbled into the net by Mitchell right on the stroke of half time.
Windsor continued to impress in the second period, but remained impotent in the final third of their field. Stuart Mitchell was again the Johnny on the spot to clear White's goal bound effort.
In the 70th minute, Windsor boss John Clements threw Mark Franks into the fray, little did he know the winger was only to stay on the field 10 minutes. For when Wilson went down in the box with Richards in close, but not claustrophobic attendance, ref Colin Shew pointed to the penalty spot. Franks led the angry and seemingly justified protests, and was promptly expelled without even previously being booked. Yet the drama wasn't over. Dodds, with the chance of completing his hat-trick had the honour, but Mitchell swooped to block. Mr. Shew decided the 'keeper had moved and Dodds dispatched the retake in far more confident fashion. Phew!"
We've got to be happy with the three points, said Slough manager Alan Davies. "It's nice to win a derby game at home for a change, when really we haven't played that well. Of hat-trick hero Dodds: "First half, he played as well as he has done. He chased people and put them under pressure. Hopefully he will go from strength to strength now.âMidfielder Paul Waites was sick at half-time, but Windsor full-back John Turner suffered a worse fate needed hospital treatment after sustaining a dislocated elbow.
