Slough's defence gave a rock solid display at Claremont Road on Saturday as the Rebels moved up into second place in the Servowarm Isthmian League table.

Never mind that the goal which gave them their first away win for five months was provided by Hendon defender Andy O'Brien - the victory was fully merited as Terry Reardon's side continued the improvement of the previous week.

The decisive moment came after 24 minutes from the fourth of Slough's 15 corners. Keeper Clive Kemplen failed to fist clear Dave Russell's cross and O'Brien stunned his colleagues by turning the ball over the line.

Slough's back four made sure that Hendon could not fight back with a gritty performance which completely stifled Hendon's front line.

In goal, Peter Rackley was rarely given cause for concern. Slough were denied an early lead when Gary Hand cleared Dylan Evans' effort off the line and in the seventh minute Kemplen's acrobatics kept out Keith White's overhead kick.

The 'keeper had to be on his toes again after 57 minutes to thwart the same player. Hendon's best chance came near the end when Rackley was equal to Adrian Smith's effort, deflecting it away for a corner. Evans and Hendon's Mitchell were lucky to escape with a stern lecture after a second half skirmish.
