In the 46th minute at Wexham Park on Saturday Eddie Hutchinson's cross found Francis Araguez unmarked, a yard out with the goal gaping. To the astonishment of the crowd and the relief of the Bromley players, the Slough full-back performed the seemingly impossible feat of putting his header wide.

That incident - the only one of any note in the second half said more about this game than a 500 word report ever could. To be brutally honest the game was a disgrace, a shambles - one which did the Premier Division of the Servowarm Isthmian League no credit at all.

For both sets of players the task of finding their own man with a pass was as difficult as finding a way through a French lorry driver's road block.

Slough's play was starved of inspiration. They were in danger of leaving a deep furrow up the centre of the pitch as they continued to play the ball up and down a narrow strip of land and ignore the wings.

It was the sort of game where a draw was the fairest result because neither side deserved to win. If there had been a panel of international judges present the teams would have scored nought for artistic impression and been in minus figures for technical merit.

Bromley came close to what would almost certainly have been a winning goal in the 10th minute when Ford crossed from the left for Dennis, and his header looped over Peter Rackley and bounced off the post.

Slough wasted a glorious chance in the 15th minute. Devon Petty's cross was headed back across the goal by Keith White for Derek Sweetman, who mis-hit the ball completely from six yards as he raced in and his shot trickled comfortably into the arms of Colin Lewington.

With the game sliding into a pattern of ineptitude the bookings of Ford and Dylan Evans, after an 18th minute scuffle, and Boyton, for clattering into Dodds, were all that kept the crowd's interest until it was Bromley's turn to waste a good opening on the stroke of half-time.

Kane worked his way past Araguez, but when his cross seemed to be falling perfectly for Dennis with Rackley out of position the visiting centre-forward amazingly failed to make any contact with the header.

Once Araguez had opened the second half with his incredible miss, there was little to report other than two Petty efforts - one at the 'keeper and one well over. That is, apart from one incident which brought the biggest response from the crowd all afternoon - when a spectator tried to retrieve the ball from the terracing, but tripped up, went into a far from graceful swallow dive and ended up rugby tackling a five foot metal drum. It was that sort of day.
