Harrow Borough struck Slough Town a killer blow at Wexham Park on Saturday - scoring twice in the last six minutes-to thwart the Rebels' hopes of a quick return to the top of the Servowarm Isthmian League, Premier Division.

However this second successive home defeat was in stark contrast to the one experienced in midweek against Chalfont St Peter. On this occasion Slough can count themselves more than a little unlucky not to have at least taken a share of the points as they contributed fully to a cracking match between two finely matched sides.

But probably the main difference between the sides was the outstanding form of Harrow's Steve Emmanuel and Ronnie Nelson. Their direct running on both flanks gave Rebels fullbacks Steve Norman and Eddie Hutchinson a testing time and between them they created both Harrow's decisive late goals for George Duck and David Pearce to score.

Showing the kind of fire and flair in their play which has been somewhat lacking in recent weeks Slough simply tore into Harrow in the early stages.

After just five minutes Keith White saw a near post header strike the top of the crossbar and then twice Peter Skerritt rose above the Harrow defence only to see his powerful headers lack the direction to really trouble Les Currell.

With Tony Gibson showing considerable talent on his first team debut Slough continued to look every bit a side challenging for the championship as Dylan Evans worked tirelessly in midfield and Skerritt was simply outstanding in the heart of the defence.

Harrow- despite their use of the offside trap at every opportunity - also had a touch of class about them with Emmanuel always a constant threat on the right. Parsons had to react quickly to stop Nelson and then the Slough 'keeper bravely foiled Emmanuel, after he had linked superbly with Duck. Slough had an early scare at the start of the second half when the ever alert Nelson capitalised on Steve Norman's mistake, rounded Parsons and then watched his effort roll tantalisingly across the face of the goal.

Both sides were now committed to all-out attack and play swung massively from end to end. Skerritt was desperately unlucky to see a header strike the post and then Rowan Dodds was foiled by Currell.

Meanwhile it took a superb save from Parsons to once again foil Nelson and some 20 minutes later the Slough 'keeper again rose to the occasion to keep out another effort from the Harrow striker.

With only six minutes left it looked as though two well disciplined defences would remain unbeaten but Emmanuel and Nelson clearly had other ideas and delivered two more telling and this time decisive blows on Slough.

Emmanuel broke from midfield and found Derek Doyle and after his cross from the right was met by Pearce, Parsons made a quite stunning point blank save. But the ever prolific Duck was on hand to slam home the loose ball in off the post.

And then in the dying seconds it was Nelson this time who broke on the left and after a surging run his cross was knocked back by Duck at the far post for Pearce to simply head past a stranded Parsons.

Tony Doherty and Howard Kennedy were both booked for first half fouls on Doyle and Ray Metz also went into the referee's notebook for a challenge on Keith White.
