SLOUGH TOWN moved into second place in the Isthmian League Premier Division when they triumphed over Harrow Borough in a bruising encounter at Wexham Park on Tuesday night. But they had to wait until the 75th minute before midfield star Pat Morrissey secured a valuable three points when he scored the only goal.

His winner came just when Slough looked to be heading towards another draw, and had substitute Barry Friend warming up on the touchline. Friend, though was soon back on the bench when Morrissey, one of three players booked during the match, hammered the ball in from a superb Slough counter attack.

It had started with a long through ball to Dave Yerby on the right from skipper Micky O'Sullivan. The full back's cross went to Dave Russell but he could not control it and Mick Kiely knocked the ball down for Morrissey to score.

Shortly after Richard Teale again had to come to the Rebels rescue when he did well to save a Derek Harris shot which caught a deflection off John Beyer.

The Slough goalkeeper had another excellent match including a crucial penalty save after 20 minutes when Russell handled inside the penalty area. Boro’ centre forward Dave Pearce tried to place his shot in the left hand corner but Teale dived full length to save the ball at the second attempt.

After that Slough began to have the better of the match but they received the hard treatment from a Harrow side seemingly intent on settling for a point.

Ray Metz was booked for a foul on Russell just after half-time and Harry Manoe was shown the yellow card for a scything tackle on Morrissey in the dying seconds. The Slough player unwisely retaliated and could have been sent off because he had been booked in the half for kicking the ball away. But, fortunately for Morrissey, the referee was more concerned with breaking up the resulting scuffle between several players.
