Micky Kiely
MICK KIELY, watched by his parents in a senior match for the first time, produced a brilliant four-goal display to give Slough their biggest win of the season in Tuesday's one-sided Isthmian league game.
Kiely, who also hit a post, was deservedly presented with the match ball after what was the best individual scoring display I have witnessed by a Slough player in nine years.
There was also a fine performance from young Steve Norman who made his debut in mid-field as Alan Gane was injured. Norman never attempted anything too spectacular but released a series of quick, accurate passes to keep Slough buzzing. Yet they led only 1-0 until 23 minutes from the end!
Slough, who were told by the referee to return to the dressing rooms to change just before the scheduled kick-off as their socks clashed with Tooting's, missed several chances. But in the 29th minute Slough went in front. A well taken free-kick from the left by Mackay was firmly headed home at the far post by Kiely.
Tooting raised their game at the start of the second period and Dennis twice went close. But Slough went 2-0 ahead in the 67th minute. Russell's delightful pass put Kiely through and he calmly placed the ball wide of Sproul.
Soon afterwards Pittaway was booked for fouling Kiely and the resultant free-kick led to Kiely completing his hat-trick by heading in Mackay's cross in the 72nd minute.
Kiely got his fourth goal in the 87th minute following the best move Slough have produced this season. Cooke and Friend carved a huge gap in the visitors’ defence and Lee crossed from the left for Kiely to dive low and head home.
Two minutes later Slough scored again. From Cooke's inswinging corner from the left Eric Young climbed above a mass of defenders to head his first goal for Slough.
