Slough Town manager Joe Arpino, disgusted by his side's poor display in losing Saturday's Isthmian League match at Champion Hill, lamented: "We have got to do a lot better than this."

Mr. Arpino, who had taken a gamble by recalling injury victims Dave Russell and Mick Kiely, added: "Kiely's ankle 'went' and Russell just didn't get going. Our defence played well but we didn't do our stuff in midfield or up front.

"It's so frustrating. As soon as we put one thing right, something else goes wrong".

Newly-promoted Dulwich deservedly won with a goal in each half by striker Tony James. Many other Dulwich attacks were foiled by the solid defensive work of right-back Roger Mackay, who still found time to make several probing runs. Mackay broke through early on and his snap shot had keeper Davies in all sorts of trouble.

Ossie Bayram, who once had a short spell with Slough, was always lively for Dulwich. In the 21st minute he deceived three defenders, only to see his through pass elude Bexley. Bexley was well shadowed by Strong until the 26th minute when he headed a Hart cross against the post.

Town keeper Teale played well enough but he could do nothing as Dulwich snatched a 27th minute lead. Borg crossed from the left and Bexley nodded down for James to slot the ball home.

Early in the second-half, Slough seemed determined to be the first team to score against Dulwich this season but gradually they fell away.

Dulwich pressed and went further ahead in the 65th minute when James headed in a right wing cross from Falconer who Russell had failed to pick up.

Bob Underwood, suffering from slightly blurred vision following an earlier clash, went off in the 80th minute to be replaced by substitute Terry Reardon.

Slough now moved forward menacingly, with Russell going close, but they had left it too late.
