Champions Enfield reached a record number of 104 Isthmian League points on Tuesday, leaving 17th in the table Slough with only 46 points after going four games without a win. Even if Slough were to win their last two games they cannot hope to finish higher than 14th.

Enfield, champions for the third successive season, scarcely needed any favours. But they got one in the 17th minute when from a disputed free kick Howell flighted the ball perfectly for ex-Slough player Micky O'Sullivan to head them into the lead.

Slough responded magnificently, with Gane sending in a swerving shot which brought a magnificent one-handed save from Moore, and Cooke rocking the bar from 27 yards.

But Enfield's clinical efficiency brought them another goal in the 47th minute. Once again O'Sullivan was the chief executioner, heading home a cross from the right by full-back Wright.

Slough refused to give up, however, and Gane reduced the arrears with a coolly-taken penalty after Tone had upended Lee in the 56th minute.

Enfield began to lose their composure now and Howell was lucky to escape with a lecture when he retaliated against Beyer.

But they regained control and exposed Slough's inability to cope with the high ball when Searle headed in a Tone cross in the 88th minute.
