Slough Town lost their way trying to get to the Barking ground for Thursday's Isthmian League game and did not arrive until 7.20 p.m., causing the game to start 10 minutes late.
They also lost their way on the pitch, being given the runaround by a Barking side they had beaten two weeks earlier.
Seventeen-year-old keeper Dale Scott, who replaced the injured Trevor Porter for his second first team game, had to make several fine saves. But Barking took the lead in the 30th minute. Noel Ashford shot low into the right hand corner of the net past the badly positioned Scott.
Slough got a classic second half send-off with a goal just after the break. Paul Lee was brought down in the area and Gane made no mistake with a fierce spot kick to the left of the keeper.
But the Barking off-side trap began to stifle the visitors' play. Slough seemed to give up in frustration, running in frantic bunches and rarely stringing passes together. Cooke virtually disappeared from the game.
Barking inevitably took the lead again in the 65th minute. Scott found himself stranded on the left of his goal as Dave Ashford shot between dithering defenders, Underwood and Mackay.
Peter Burton lobbed a header over the desperately grasping Scott to make it 3-1 in the 74th minute. Bobby Horastead was replaced by substitute Terry Reardon but Slough were by now well beaten.
