Slough made history at Sandy Lane, Tooting on Saturday, when they gained their first ever Isthmian League points on the ground of the Tooting and Mitcham club by achieving a well-deserved draw.
Slough led at the interval but the home team squared the account 16 minutes into the second period of the game.
Things looked bad for Slough in the first few minutes, when Alan Ives forced Trevor Porter to pull off a superb save, and this seemed to inspire the home team, who continued to pressurise the Slough goal, but in the eighth minute they were completely caught out by a lightning Slough attack.
Dave Russell, drew the defence to the right before passing to Paul Lee. He crossed a fine ball which fell at the feet of Kieron Somers, who took no time in blasting his shot past the Tooting 'keeper, Priddy.
The Rebels should have added at least two goals in the next few minutes, with both Barrie Friend and Somers both having fine chances which were wasted, but even when Slough allowed Tooting to get back into the game, the home team were unable to make a mark in the Slough defence and were content to float hopeful crosses into the area.
Even so, Porter in the Slough goal, had to pull off some fine saves, especially from Ives, who constantly worried the Slough 'keeper.
By now, the Rebels looked in complete command of the game, but in a brief moment when their concentration slipped, Tooting took advantage by equalising. After 56 minutes, Tooting defender Billy Smith shot from 25 yards, but a deflection by Dave Juneman put the ball past the unfortunate Porter.
The match then turned into a real thriller, with both teams. searching for the elusive winner. Slough always looked the most dangerous, and with Russell hitting the bar and Lee slipping past three players to put his shot agonisingly wide, it only seemed a matter of time before they found the winner.
But Tooting fought back, and Ives caused the most problems for Porter, when he burst through and shot wide after 75 minutes.
All in all this was an excellent match for the spectator, but Slough manager Joe Arpino was not as happy. "We still aren't putting our game together for all of the match. There were many times when we just stopped playing, and we missed so many chances. We could have won today, at times we completely outclassed Tooting, but we just failed to take the advantage," he said.
