Slough Town's relegation worries continued on Saturday when their run of Isthmian League games without a win was extended to five. Dagenham, who knocked Slough out of the Amateur Cup semi final in 1971 and the F.A. Trophy semi-final last season, were presented with two gift goals.

Dagenham's keeper Ian Huttley had a quiet afternoon despite the promising debut in the Slough attack of former Gillingham and Sheffield Wednesday goal grabber Peter Feely.

Feely showed some of the touches which brought him league success, without being able to make a big impact. He faded in the second-half and was replaced by substitute Paul Lee 11 minutes from time.
Feely, a strong aggressive player, produced a couple of shots and a header which were off target, and forced Huttley to make a good save.

But Town's real star was midfield dynamo Barry Friend. In defence, Phil Beal showed signs of regaining his form and it was tragic that he should concede an own goal.

Gane, Turl and Underwood repeatedly broke up Dagenham attacks with timely tackles but Slough could have gone behind before striker Reggie Harris netted a brilliant opportunist goal on the half hour.

A flick on from a long goal kick caused panic in the Slough defence, and Harris beat hesitant keeper Porter in a tussle for the loose ball. Harris was forced to go almost to the bye-line but blasted home a left foot shot from a seemingly impossible angle.

Slough were unlucky not to get an equaliser, with Cooke having a shot saved and Russell hitting the post with a 20 yard thunderbolt.

Dagenham regained control, however, despite having John Mitchell sent off in the 84th minute for a fierce tackle after he had been cautioned five minutes earlier for handling. But their second goal was fortunate to say the least. Beal, of all people, put into his own net two minutes from time. He tried to lob a pass back to the keeper but Porter had come well off his line and the ball sailed into the net.

So Slough's tale of woe continues, and they have now lost 10 of their 15 league matches.
