Bob Underwood, who expected to be out of action for six weeks when he suffered his sixth shoulder dislocation, bounced back after only a 10-day absence to help Slough Town win Tuesday's F.A. Cup second qualifying round replay (writes Tony Flood).
As stand-in left-back Gordon Bartlett was injured and trialist John Hill has yet to prove himself, manager Joe Arpino called in Underwood and Bob hardly put a foot wrong.
He said afterwards: "I was a little wary at first but soon forgot about the shoulder. I was going to have it pinned but the hospital says they can't fit me in for some months, so while I'm waiting I might as well play."
Underwood was not the only Slough hero - there were 11 of them as they fought to earn an away tie with Southern Leaguers Barnet in the next round and at the same time stretched their unbeaten run to 11 games.
The winning goal came from Paul Lee, the skilful little raider who is often underestimated as the scouts flock to see Trevor Porter and Dave Russell.
Both sides were so cautious in the opening 30 minutes that few chances were created although Somers went close for Slough and Leytonstone star Still put the ball over from point blank range after Brooks and King had nodded on a long throw from Elley.
Leytonstone danger man King came in for some tough treatment from Davies and Underwood, and when he did get through Porter came out to rob him.
Somers found himself with a great chance in the opening minutes of the second-half but was too slow and Still cleared.
Slough were now stepping up the pace considerably and deservedly took the lead in the 62nd minute. Beyer's free-kick caught Leytonstone out and Somers back-headed the ball to Lee who thumped it home in fine style.
Five minutes later a glorious move involving Lee and Davies ended in Russell firing against the outside of the left hand post.
With 11 minutes to go Leytonstone brought on substitute Powell for Howell and he almost produced a dramatic last minute equaliser but Porter managed to scramble his header around the post.
