Slough went down rather heavily at Reading on Saturday in the amateur cup competition, against their old rivals of amateur fame.
Reading had not forgotten the beating they received at the Dolphin in the English cup contest three weeks earlier, and they put their strongest team in the field in order to regain their lost laurels.
Slough, however, were not fully represented, B. O. Corbett and F. B. Roberts being unable to make the journey, and this let him B. Kilvington and J. Wright in the front line.
Lunn opened the scoring for Reading, who led at half-time by a single goal to nil.
After changing ends Gettins registered two more points, and Slough failing to respond were beaten by three goals to nil. The greatest surprise was the number of spectators on the field, over 6 pounds being taken, which constitutes a record for the amateurs.
Thus closes the amateur cup competition so far as Slough are concerned. They are still in for the English cup and have to meet Chesham in the next round away, the Cheshamites refusing to be tempted by a monetary offer.
