Slough started this game in a strong fashion and it was obvious that they were fully aware of the league position - that two points would give them runners up position to the Metropolitan Police.
Kicking down the slope Slough had the best of the opening stages and on two occasions Mountenay went very near to scoring. It was through this player who gave Williams a beautiful pass that Slough went into the lead. Play was very even from this point until half time and Slough were hard pressed to hold on to the lead but this they did in grand style.
Early in the second half Webb netted what seemed a perfectly good goal for Slough but much to the spectators disgust (which was by no means silent) the referee disallowed it on offside grounds.
The visitors were beginning at this point to tire and Slough, full of "league" hopes, put on full pressure.
Marshall was the man who gave Slough their second goal from a penalty for handling by a Wood Green back - this was soon followed by a neat goal by Mackenzie who put paid to any hopes Wood Green may have had of drawing level.
Slough were really the only team in the picture now and corner after corner was forced (eight in all) before Marshall converted, again from a penalty when Mackenzie was fouled as he was about to shoot.
Slough finished up worthy winners but credit must be given to the fine work of the Wood Green defence, especially Vose in goal.
