This was one of the best games seen at the Dolphin for a long time and Colchester must be congratulated on their fine display, they were unlucky not to take a point back with them. They dominated the play in the first half and gave the Slough defenders a worrying time.
The game started at fast pace and it was obvious both teams were going all out for the points at stake.
After five minutes and rather against the run of play Slough took the lead when J. Ward scored with a grand shot from well out.
Colchester now came well into the picture and after a corner Young received the ball and had plenty of time to shoot past Marshall. Only a minute elapsed before Cawcutt put the visitors further ahead. .
Morris missed what seemed a certain equaliser for Slough when he shot wide from just inside the goal area. However, the visitors kept up a terrific pressure till half-time but could not add to their score.
Slough resumed with Morgan and Morris having changed over, the latter going to Inside left. Slough's equaliser came from Morgan who converted a penalty awarded after he head been brought down heavily when about to shoot.
Both team fought hard for another goal and the defence on both sides did grand work.
Morgan received the ball from Evans and dashed through the middle to see Heasman smother his shot - luckily for Slough Evans was following up and had no difficulty to convert.
