Slough's superiority in this game was more pronounced than the final score suggest, only weak finishing by the Slough forwards towards the end of the game kept the score down .
It was some time before anything of note happened, Slough being first to attack and seeing efforts by Wells and Morgan go just wide. Slough gradually opened up the game and gave the visiting defenders little rest.
A goal seemed certain when Morgan shot from the edge of the penalty area but the ball hit the upright.
However, Ward running in, headed a fine goal, although the impact completely knocked him out.
Owing to the failing light the team changed straight over, and Colchester came more into the picture. Even so, Slough added to their lead when Morgan, having just missed a "sitter", scored a beautiful goal with a hard cross shot. Almost at once Stratford added another for Slough, who now seemed satisfied with their lead and played poor football.
Colchester made a last minute rally during which Colding shot the ball past Marshall, who could not be blamed as it is doubtful if he could see the ball - the spectators certainly could not!
