The visit of Oxford City lying 7th in the Isthmian League table, to play their Spartan League hosts at the Dolphin, on Satuday October 26th 1929 attracted the largest crowd of the season and an excellent game was seen, with Slough, who were particularly well served by Peacock and Bruce, gaining a deserved victory.
Slough lost the toss and had to kick up the slope and against the wind. The first five minutes ran entirely in favour of the visitors and Bruce, in Slough goal, was called upon to make many fine saves. Slough gradually recovered and Ward received a fine pass from Morgan to register the first goal. The City equalised, through Hacker after a goalmouth melee, but Serjent put Slough ahead in the next minute only to see Ledger again equalise from what that player obviously meant for a centre. Just before the interval Morgan put the home team ahead again.
In the second half the City faded out of the picture for a long time, and although the football was not so good as in the first portion the spectators showed no lack of encouragement to their local side. Ward, Duffield, and Serjent (2) added further goals for Slough, who completely dominated the game.
There was one desperate City rally late in the game but Bruce was equal to all the calls made upon his charge and generally speaking the homesters were always masters of the situation.
