Bill Tatton
One of the rare occasions when Slough defeated the now illustrious Walthamstow Avenue - then a club struggling to make its name. The Avenue were top of the Spartan League at the time and Slough were well among the leaders. It was an atrocious day, and a magnificent defence won the game far Slough - a defence in which Andrew Bruce played one of his finest games in the Slough goal and “Tigger” Payne and Tommy Evans were brilliant backs.
We all remember Bill Tatton as an Inside right - an ideal partner Glover (who was captain of the team in those days) Tatton was at inside left in this game, and he scored the first goal. His partner was Jack Morris whom we mainly remember as an outside left. Jack scored the second goal with one of his special “pile drivers" which we remember so well from a long distance out.
There are many incidents which stick out in one’s memory of this memorable game but chief were the goalkeeping of Bruce, the fine combination of Morris and Tatton, that goal from Morris and the great display put up by Phil Seymour at right half.
