Maidenhead were at home to Slough in the FA Amateur Cup, and a crowd of about 2,000 gathered to witness the game. Slough were at full strength, but Maidenhead again had several changes. C. D. Care resumed in his old position at left-back, Adkins appeared at right-half, W. Laurie shifted to centre-half, and Foley came in at left-half.
The front line was also completely re-arranged. Venables was at outside-right, partnered by Hanks a new-comer; Copes took the middle berth, Marcham came up to inside left, and another new-comer in Earle appeared at outside left.
Marcham won the toss at the third spin of the coin, and set Slough to kick up the slope. Snow immediately set Grant going, and Laurie had to concede a corner, from which Cox shot by when well-placed.
Marcham set Earle moving, and his centre dropped nicely into the goal-mouth and where Marcham and Copas between them missed a nice opening and eventually Folley shot wide. Grant got away at a smart pace and tipped the ball nicely across for Morris to head just by the posts, while a hard drive from Norris went wide, and with Glover well through Polley conceded a corner, which Laurie cleared.
Following a long goal-kick by Neighbour, Payne missed his kick and let in Earle who rared down and centred for Copas to easily beat Luff after but 8 minutes play.
Slough replied strongly and Glover and Norris gave Grant a chance from which he hit the wrong side of the post. The referee signalled for a fresh ball, the original one having burst and on re-starting Earle got away and passing in to Marchamm, the latter got in a fine drive which Luff smartly fielded.
Slough became very aggressive, but Care, Evans and Neighbour got in some smart work against a nippy set of forwards, though one or two corners were conceded, from one of which a very fierce tussle occurred ending when Glover put by with a nice opening.
Marcham enabled Earle to break away and the outside left dropped the ball on the bar, when it fell in front of goal, where Luff just managed to clear from Copes.
Again Slough attacked and Morris shot; Neighbour punched out to Glover, and before he could regain his position, Glover had whipped the ball in for Norris to head the equalising goal, 14 minutes from the interval.
Slough were soon round the home goal again, and Neighbour made two fine saves from Glover, being hurt after the second in a charge by Norris.
Venables got nicely away, but received no support and Evans was able to clear. At the interval each side had scored once.
Slough almost took the lead in the first minute on resuming, for Glover broke away, centred, and Norris headed against the bar; a free kick relieved, and Earle and Marcham transferred play, the latter shooting by.
Grant got going for Slough from Baldwin's pass and centred. W. Laurie miskicked and Cox easily gave' Slough the lead with but 8 minutes gone.
In a Maidenhead attack, Hanks, receiving from a throw in, shot into the goalmouth, and a corner was conceded, but this was easily cleared, and Slough took up the running, Cox giving Neighbour a teaser to deal with, while the same player again tested the goal-keeper.
Then for a period Slough completely over-played Maidenhead and bombarded the home goal, in addition to forcing two corners, which, by the way, were conceded by Care and Evans when goals seemed to come.
Maidenhead had a brief period of attack during which Copas made two good tries, and Luff had to save from Laurie, but they were soon beaten back, and after Neighbour had dealt with many good shots, he was beaten, for the third time when Norris headed past him following work by Snow and Glover.
Once, again Maidenhead had a look in and work by the right wing looked likely to produce a goal but Baldwin cleared in the nick of time. However, the attack was continued, and Copas put in a good try, and Venables forced a corner but this was cleared, and Slough went down to register their fourth goal, 7 minutes from time, Norris being the marksman from an opening made by Payne and Morris. This was the extent of the scoring, and Slough won an easy victory by 4 goals to 1.
