B&B Senior Cup
Attendance: 142
A young Slough Town side exited the Berks & Bucks FA Senior Cup at Bulpit Lane on Tuesday evening.
Scott Davies opted to name a squad which featured a number of EDS players for this tie, including Balu Makumbi and Brian Nelson who both started, with Reece Mather, Jack Timberlake, Armani Church, and 16-year-old Kian Berry named on the substitutes bench. Noah Hay and Kwadwo Bugyei-Kyei also started at the back, alongside the more experienced Dan Bayliss.
It was also an opportunity for Johnny Goddard to get a full 90 minutes, Kweku Lucan also getting valuable game time on his return from injury.
In a slow start to the game, Hungerford’s Dawid Regula had a good chance to score, but could only fire into the side netting. At the other end, Lucan had the Rebels’ first chance, but his shot was easily saved by keeper Clarke.
The hosts took the lead on 25 minutes through Baboucarr Jarra after an initial effort from a corner kick had been well saved by Charlie Horlock.
Horlock was busy again on the half hour mark as he denied Hungerford a second goal, saving from Regula.
Slough missed a key chance to level the scores on the strike of half time when Dan Bayliss powered a header towards goal from a Johnny Goddard corner, only to see it cannon back off the near post.
In the second half, as Slough looked to get back into the game, Ollie Spicer unleashed a venomous drive which just sailed over the crossbar.
On 65 minutes, a massive scramble in the Hungerford box resulted in the ball hitting the crossbar with the Rebels close to levelling the scores.
But Hungerford spurned a glorious chance on 72 minutes to double their lead when Isaac Hughes failed to convert from 6 yards out, an opportunity which looked easier to score.
As Slough turned to the bench and introduced some EDS talent, Hungerford did manage to double their lead on 76 minutes, an easy finish for Adulai Sambu after a defensive mistake.
Five minutes from time Sam Evans had a half chance to pull a goal back, but he couldn’t direct his header on target from Goddard’s cross.
And two minutes from the end, Hungerford wrapped up the tie with a third goal. Isaac Hughes played the ball across the 6 yard box and the unfortunate Makumbi turned the ball into his own net.
