Slough Town suffered a heavy defeat away at Weymouth in National League South.
A lacklustre performance from the Rebels saw them fall behind early and struggle to recover, as Weymouth capitalised on defensive mistakes to secure a crucial win.
Slough made three changes from their previous outing, with Josh Jackman, Ody Alfa, and Jaiden Bartolo coming into the starting lineup. However, any hope of a bright start was extinguished within the opening minutes when Brooklyn Genesini put the hosts ahead. Weymouth continued to press forward, and Slough struggled to gain a foothold in the game.
Malachi Linton doubled Weymouth’s lead in the 19th minute in unfortunate circumstances for Slough. A headed clearance from Guy Hollis ricocheted off a defender and fell kindly to Linton, who slotted past Charlie Horlock with ease. Despite winning a couple of corners, Slough rarely looked like troubling the Weymouth goal, and they went into the break two goals down and in need of a significant improvement.
Scott Davies made a change at half-time, bringing on Johnny Goddard for John Gilbert in an attempt to inject some creativity. However, the second half followed a similar pattern, with Slough struggling to break down a resolute Weymouth defence.
The hosts extended their lead in the 59th minute when Jake McCarthy’s free kick took a wicked deflection, wrong-footing Horlock and finding the back of the net. Just six minutes later, Weymouth completed the rout as substitute Ben Greenwood added a fourth, ensuring Slough endured a torrid afternoon on the south coast.
Slough did manage to create a couple of opportunities from set pieces, but they lacked the cutting edge required to convert them into genuine chances. Weymouth defended well and deservedly secured the three points, boosting their slim survival hopes while leaving Slough in a precarious position.
The Rebels now sit in 18th place, just eight points above the relegation zone with games running out. Scott Davies will be looking for a swift response against Aveley next Saturday to avoid being dragged further into trouble.
