Slough Town were forced to settle for a point as Enfield Town came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw in front of a bumper crowd at Arbour Park on Non League Day.
The Rebels – wearing a special green kit in support of charity partners Thames Hospice – started brightly, with David Ogbonna’s pace and trickery immediately causing problems. Inside the opening minutes, he drew a booking for Enfield’s Jon Oyenuga before Jeanmal Prosper headed wide from a near-post corner. John Gilbert also looked lively, bursting into the box and forcing a last-ditch clearance.
Slough’s early pressure paid off in the 15th minute when Gilbert seized on a loose ball down the right and whipped a dangerous low cross into the area. Defender Edon Pruti reacted quickest, finishing from close range to give the Rebels a deserved lead.
The hosts remained on top, moving the ball well and pinning Enfield back. However, the visitors gradually grew into the contest and started to create problems of their own. Charlie Horlock was forced into action in the 21st minute, reacting sharply to a deflected effort that looped dangerously in front of him. Xavier Benjamin then went close for Enfield, his long-range strike skimming past the post after nearly catching Horlock off guard.
As the half wore on, Enfield’s counterattacks increased in threat, with Slough’s wing-backs under pressure. Despite this, the Rebels carried a 1-0 lead into the break, with Pruti’s early strike proving the difference.
The second half started with a slower tempo as both teams struggled to regain rhythm. Slough continued to look for openings, and Ogbonna remained a key threat, drawing another foul in the 59th minute, this time from Henry Hawkins, who was booked.
However, Enfield found their equaliser in the 65th minute. A scrappy battle in the box saw Anointed Chukwu challenge for possession, and the ball eventually fell to Sam Youngs, who made no mistake in slotting it past Horlock.
The Rebels responded by pushing forward again, but the visitors had gained confidence. Slough made their only substitution in the 77th minute, with Francis Amartey replacing the impressive Ogbonna. Moments later, Enfield should have taken the lead when Chukwu found himself unmarked in the six-yard box but failed to direct his header on target.
As the clock ticked down, Slough pushed hard for a winner. Henry Ochieng had a golden opportunity in the 89th minute, meeting a bouncing ball just outside the box but sending his effort over the bar. In stoppage time, the Rebels came even closer when Amartey struck a fierce volley that Enfield keeper Wright could only palm away. From the resulting corner, Prosper’s header was well held by Wright before Ochieng blasted another effort over from the edge of the area.
Despite a late flurry of chances, Slough could not find a way through, and the match ended 1-1. While the Rebels will feel they could have secured all three points, Enfield’s resilience ensured the spoils were shared on an entertaining Non League Day at Arbour Park.
