Bath City secured a well-earned 2-0 victory over Slough Town at Twerton Park, with goals in each half proving decisive in a match where the visitors struggled to create clear-cut chances.

The Romans started on the front foot, and an early penalty appeal for handball against Henry Ochieng was waved away by referee Said Ouchene. Slough had their brightest spell in the opening exchanges, with David Ogbonna looking particularly lively. The winger won an early corner and nearly set up Slavi Spasov for a golden opportunity, but the forward couldn’t capitalise.

Despite Slough’s early promise, Bath took the lead in the 17th minute. Charlie Horlock made a superb triple save to keep Scott Wilson at bay, but he could do nothing as Alex Fisher reacted quickest, chesting the ball down before volleying home. The goal sparked a wave of Bath pressure, with Jordan Alves drawing a foul just outside the area soon after, but the resulting free-kick failed to trouble Horlock.

Slough struggled to respond, finding it difficult to break through a well-organised Bath defence. Their best chance of the first half came via Guy Hollis’ long throw into the six-yard box, which caused panic before being smothered by home goalkeeper Harvey Wiles-Richards. Further half-chances fell to John Gilbert and Jeanmal Prosper, but neither could find the finishing touch, and the Rebels went into the break trailing by a single goal.

Looking for a way back into the game, Slough made a half-time change, with Francis Amartey replacing Hollis. The visitors began the second half with greater intensity, and Gilbert forced a strong save from Wiles-Richards five minutes after the restart. The resulting corner almost led to an equaliser, but the ball was bundled against the post before Bath scrambled it clear.

Slough continued to push forward, with Spasov testing the Bath keeper with an effort which was saved on the goal line, and Gilbert delivering dangerous balls into the box. However, Bath’s defence held firm, and as the game entered its final stages, they reasserted control. A series of fouls from Slough disrupted their momentum, allowing the hosts to slow the tempo and regain composure.

Bath made sure of the points in the 79th minute. Alves broke free down the left and forced a parry from Horlock, only for Brad Ash to pounce on the rebound and slot home from close range. It was a cruel blow for Slough, who had grown into the game but lacked the cutting edge to capitalise on their improved second-half display.

Late substitutions saw Ody Alfa and Jack Timberlake introduced for Slough, but there was no way back as Bath closed out the win with minimal fuss. The result marks a frustrating evening for the Rebels, who were left to rue missed opportunities and the resilience of their hosts.
