Weston-super-Mare took all three points against Slough Town at Arbour Park, thanks to goals from Luke Coulson, Emlyn Lewis, and Morgan Lewis.

The Rebels were again denied the services of key defensive players in Guy Hollis and Dan Bayliss through injury, though Scott Davies handed new signing Lewis Miccio a debut at left back, the Australian having only met his new teammates shortly before kickoff. Leon Parillon was excluded from the squad as he completed his transfer to Southend United, but there was another boost with John Gilbert returning to the lineup after suspension.

The game began at a high tempo, with Johnny Goddard testing Max Harris inside the opening minute, rolling a shot into the keeper’s gloves from distance. Moments later, James Dodd saw his free-kick drift wide of the near post, before Slavi Spasov had a chance to put Slough in front, only for his placed effort from the edge of the box to be comfortably gathered by Harris.

It was Weston who struck first when a long ball forward found Coulson. His initial effort was blocked by Charlie Horlock, but after regaining possession in the box, he was adjudged to have been brought down by Scott Davies, despite the Rebels’ player/manager clearing getting a foot on the ball. Referee Joe Woolmer, however, had no hesitation in pointing to the spot, and Coulson confidently stepped up to send Horlock the wrong way, notching his 12th league goal of the season.

Slough attempted to respond before the break, but went in at half time trailing.

The home side nearly equalized early in the second half when Jeanmal Prosper connected with David Ogbonna’s cross at the front post, but his header flashed narrowly wide. Their persistence eventually paid off, as Ogbonna found space on the right and delivered a pinpoint cross to the back post, where Spasov nodded home from close range to level the score.

Weston responded with a flurry of chances. Sam Pearson attempted an audacious overhead kick from a Coulson cross, sending it well over the bar, before Bray’s half-volley from 20 yards was tipped behind by Horlock. The Slough goalkeeper was then forced into another fine save, pushing Pearson’s close-range strike wide after the forward was played in by Pedro Borges.

From the resulting corner, Weston restored their lead. Coulson’s precise delivery found captain Emlyn Lewis rising highest at the far post, and he powered a header into the net to make it 2-1.

Slough tried to find a way back, with Dan Roth’s deflected shot from 25 yards spinning wide, but Weston continued to look dangerous. Coulson curled a shot narrowly past the post before the visitors put the game to bed. Substitute Morgan Lewis latched onto a pass from Kadji down the left, kept his composure, and coolly slotted the ball past Horlock to net his first goal for the club.

Weston nearly added a fourth in the dying moments, with Coulson’s curling free kick from 25 yards beaten away by Horlock, and Kadji blasting the rebound over as the final whistle approached.
