Slough Town and Eastbourne Borough played out a goalless draw at Arbour Park, with the Rebels unable to capitalise on The Sports being reduced to ten men in the second half after Pierce Bird was dismissed for two yellow card offences.
The result brought an end to Slough's run of three consecutive defeats in all competitions, while Eastbourne extended their unbeaten league streak to nine games. Eastburne manager Adam Murray sought to bolster their attacking options by signing forward Jason Adigun on loan from Dagenham & Redbridge during the week, handing him his debut. Slough, meanwhile, strengthened their defence with the addition of Guy Hollis, who also made the starting lineup.
The first half offered few clear-cut chances. Seven minutes in, Alfie Pavey headed just over the bar from Dominic Odusanya’s cross. Slough’s Francis Amartey forced Joseph Wright into a save with a low strike, and Leon Parillon sent an effort from outside the box narrowly wide. For Eastbourne, John Shamalo headed over from a Courtney Clarke cross, and Kai Woolard-Innocent’s redirected effort from an Adigun cross was comfortably held by Charlie Horlock.
The match's turning point came just before the hour mark when Bird received his second yellow card for impeding Slavi Spasov as he advanced towards goal.
Slough applied pressure against the depleted visitors, with Hollis’ long throws causing concern in the Eastbourne defence. Hollis also went close from a corner, his header deflected over the bar.
The Rebels came agonisingly close to securing a late winner on multiple occasions. Amartey outpaced Woolard-Innocent but was unable to beat Wright with his effort. In the ten minutes of added time, Johnny Goddard played in Spasov, whose shot hit the side netting. Scott Davies then curled a free kick just wide, before the final chance in the dying seconds – a Hollis long throw was flicked on to Spasov, whose header hit the top of the crossbar.
Slough now look ahead to another home match against high-flying Torquay United at Arbour Park on Tuesday evening.
